Puerto Morelos is fast becoming a focal tourism reference point in the Mexican Caribbean. Latest figures show that local and federal tourism promotional strategies are paying off. According to the local Mayor Laura Fernández Piña, the sleepy fishing village is reaching an historical position both at a national and international level.

Puerto Morelos in Numbers
In 2019, Puerto Morelos maintained an average year-round occupancy of 84 percent in its more than seven thousand rooms. This created an economic spill of $1.23 million dollars. This figure includes airfare, hotel, transfers, excursions, shopping and restaurants outside the lodging centers. Mayor Laura Fernández Piña said that the average stay was 6.6 nights and the rate of repeat travel is currently 49 percent.

Without a doubt, Puerto Morelos´ main attractions include 18 kilometers of beaches. In addition, the emblematic Ruta de Cenotes hosts twenty ecotourism parks. Laura Fernández affirms that the tourist success of Puerto Morelos is the result of coordinated work between the state and the federation. “We maintain a close collaboration between the three orders of government to strengthen us as a destination, but also to continue maintaining Quintana Roo as the most touristic state in Mexico.”
